My mother is in her fifties and she has got severe osteoarthritis. She had about four joint replacements- both her shoulders, her left hip and left knee. She is having cortisone injections in her painful right knee, which needs replacement. My grandmother too had osteoarthritis and I guess this is in our genes.
I am worried whether I will also get affected by osteoarthritis as I often experience severe joint pain after walking long distances. I have heard that identifying the relevant genes and initiating early preventative treatment might alleviate this problem. I’ve tried a variety of drugs to help me cope with the pain, and they aren’t providing enough relief. I don’t feel ready for surgery. Are there any other treatments available for me?
My mother is currently undergoing treatment for osteoarthritis from Toronto. Can I undergo the same treatment? Will it have any side effects? Please share.
