My daughter is 21 years old, and she has had chronic constipation since childhood. And she developed a fissure and polyp that had to be taken care of surgically when she was 18 years old. After that surgery, she was able to lead a comfortable living situation. She started to keep her problems at bay with lots of water, and fibrous food. Now that she wants to go for higher studies, and want to try out different living situations. She was about to leave this weekend but due to the present scenario of corona virus in different countries, she stays back at home. But soon after this present situation, she will move in with a few other people. But she is getting nervous about this move because she is afraid of throwing off all the progress she has made since surgery. I know she is going to take a lot of lifestyle changes in her diet and exercise. Currently, she has a bowel movement about once a day, sometimes less. I don't know how her lifestyle changes going to affect it. So that I managed to find a stool softener which is a colace product that I found online. I read those stool softeners are gentle enough to prevent constipation. However, I want to know whether it is safe to take stool softeners. Are there any side effects for stool softeners? I would be grateful for your thoughts on this.
